Karachi is once again suffering from prolonged spans of unannounced power outages amid hot weather as the main power provider of the city has failed to meet the city's electricity consumption needs.
K-Electric has again begun to carry out unannounced loadshedding in the port city. Different areas of the metropolis, including Federal B. Area, are facing six hours of unannounced loadshedding.
Several areas — including those exempt from loadshedding — such as North Karachi, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Korangi and Clifton are facing interruptions in power supply.
When contacted, the power utility reiterated its oft-repeated position, saying it has not enhanced the span of power outages in the city nor was any change made in the loadshedding schedule.
Earlier this week, the KE announced that the first unit of K-Electric’s Bin Qasim Power Station 3 (BQPS-III) is currently offline following a fault identified during a test. It said, however, that no additional loadshedding will be carried out.
Per a statement by the K-Electric, "Currently, the power supply to the city is as per the routine schedule announced on June 30th 2022 and available on KE website."
The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led incumbent government had earlier pledged to surmount the issue of power shortfall. Last month, PM Shehbaz said the federal government was making all-out efforts to revive the stalled power plants to put an end to the huge energy crisis faced by the country.

PTI chief Imran Khan, who is facing terrorism charges following his controversial remarks about a female judge, reached an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad today to get pre-arrest bail, according to DawnNewsTV . Security was tightened around the Federal Judicial Complex, where the hearing will be held, with police and Frontier Corps personnel deployed at the site, the Dawn.com correspondent in the capital said. Roads in the complex’s surroundings have also been blocked. The PTI, meanwhile, called on supporters to “come out on the streets and then head to Islamabad the next day” if Imran is taken into custody. “Clear directions from the party given!” It also added a hashtag in Urdu, which says “Imran Khan is our red line”. Prior to Imran’s arrival, a plea for his pre-arrest bail was filed in the court of Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan, who will hear the case today. It was contended in the plea that police had registered the terrorism case against Imran as an “act of revenge”....
The US dollar was seen losing ground against the rupee in interbank trading on Wednesday morning as it fell by 50 paisa, with analysts linking the development to optimism surrounding the expected release of loan tranches by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the greenback depreciated Rs1.45 against the previous day's close of Rs206 to reach Rs204.55 around 1:20pm. The FAP's closing rate of the last session shows a difference of 87 paisa from that of the State Bank of Pakistan, recorded at Rs206.87. By closing time on Wednesday, the greenback was being traded at Rs205.50 in the interbank. Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan General Secretary Zafar Paracha attributed the international currency's fall to the possibility of the IMF releasing two combined tranches of around $1.85 billion instead of the initially expected single tranche of around $1bn. On Tuesday, Pakistan received the Memorandum of Eco...
